Siya sources have revealed that the Soweto giants are keen to hold onto the 37-year-old, bring a wealth of experience to the goalkeeping department.
Now, news reaching the Siya crew, is that Pirates are set to enter into discussions with the goalminder regarding a one-year deal.
"Yes its true, his current contract is coming to an end in June but looking at the situation right now, the team is offering him a one year extension. It's only good for the team to keep him. What if Ofori doesn't sign and they don't get the goalkeepers they want from Sekhukhune United and Richards Bay? What will happen?" a source indicated to the Siya crew.
"So that's why they are going to keep Mphotshane for at least one year. For now, its not a done deal as they have to offer him one year for now. Let's wait and see what will happen before the end of the season," the source said.
Mpontshane joined Pirates in 2015 from Platinum Stars and has on several occasions been used as a second choice at the club, with Sipho Chaine making the number one position his own.
The Siya crew reached out to the club for comment, but attempts proved futile.
