Teko Modise is highly confident ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns' MTN8 quarterfinal tie against Platinum Stars on Saturday.
The Brazilians will be on high alert to avoid a repeat of last season when they were bundled out of the Telkom Knockout by Dikwena with a 2-1 score line. However, Pitso Mosimane's charges are billed as favourites, having amassed impressive results during their pre-season training programme.
But Modise says they are not putting the 'favourites' tag on themselves, although they are confident of walking away winners at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
A win for Sundowns will see them booking a spot for the two-legged semi-finals, and a step closer to winning another piece of silverware after being crowned PSL champions last season.
"I don't think it's true that Sundowns are always the favourites. "With the confidence we have at the moment, we stand a good chance of winning against Platinum Stars," Modise was quoted as saying by the PSL official website at a Downs' press conference on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Stars have lost a number of their key players from last season during the current transfer period, like Siphelele Mthembu (Kaizer Chiefs), Lindokuhle Mbatha (Mamelodi Sundowns) and Issa Sarr (Orlando Pirates), and it remains to be seen what plan Freese has up his sleeve to overcome a Sundowns side that has seemed to be free-scoring in pre-season games.
