MTN8 Match Report Report: Orlando Pirates 2-1 SuperSport United
MTN 8 Quarter-Final   Result: Orlando Pirates 2-1 SuperSport United   Date: 02 August 2014   Venue: Orlando Stadium   Orlando Pirates booked their spot in the semifinals of the MTN8 with a 2-1 win over SuperSport United at Orlando Stadium.   The opening 20 minutes proved to a dull affair, although Pirates were in full control, dominating possession from the on set, with the Buccaneers midfield of Oupa Manyisa, Thandani Ntshumayelo and Mpho Makola pulling the strings for the hosts, while Thabo Matlaba is proving to be handful down the left flank.   And the hosts took advantage of their dominance and were rewarded in the 32nd minute, as Daine Klate slotted home from 12-yards out, after some great by Matlaba down the left.   The lead was doubled in the 39th minute, as another SuperSport old boy, Kermit Erasmus sprung the offside trap before lobbing the on-rushing Ronwen Williams.   SuperSport, meanwhile, failed to get going in the opening 45 minutes, with the likes of David Mathebula and Thuso Phala failing to make an impact in the game, while Senzo Meyiwa is yet to forced into a save.   While, the defensive duo of Clayton Daniels and Mor Diouf  seem to struggling with Erasmus, with the Pirates striker springing the offside trap on numerous occasions.   Pirates almots got a third in the 51st minute, Erasmus teed up Matlaba, but the fullback's effort was crashed onto the upright.   SuperSport came close to pulling one back in the 65th minute, Bradley Grobler dispossesed Siyabonga Sangweni, before teeing up Thuso Phala but Meyiwa was on hand to deny both Grobler and Phala.   Four minutes later and the visitors pulled one back, as David Mathebula showed great composure from a tight angle to slot past Meyiwa.   Pirates should have sealed the result in the 79th minute, but Manyisa skied his effort over the bar from six-yards out, after being teed up by Makola.   Cavin Johnson's men pushed on for the equaliser, but the Pirates defence stood firm, and managed to hold on for the win.   Here's how they lined up:   Orlando Pirates: Meyiwa, Mahamutsa, Sangweni, Jele, Matlaba, Manyisa, Nthumayelo, Myeni, Klate, Makola, Erasmus.   SuperSport United: Williams, Moloi, Daniels, Diouf, Khumalo, Morton, Phala, Mokeke, Manyama, Mathebula, Grobler.    Check out the MTN8 Fixtures here.
