Bloemfontein Celtic are looking to put one over Bidvest Wits in their MTN8 quarterfinal tie at Bidvest Stadium this evening.
Ernst Middendorp's men are coming off a decent preseason regimen, where they won the inaugural e-tv Charity Showdown, ironically beating Wits on their way to the final. The club's defender-cum-midfielder, Mogogi Gabonamong, says they are feeling confident ahead of the game and keen to bag the first piece of silverware for the season.
New signings like Ruben Cloete and Bevan Fransman will be out to impress, while there will also be revenge on the minds of the Celtic players, after they were bundled out of the same competition and the Nedbank Cup by the Clever Boys last season.
However, it will certainly not be an easy task against Gavin Hunt's men, who finished last season in the top three and reached the final of the Nedbank Cup, where they lost to Orlando Pirates.
"I feel we have one of our best teams at Celtic in recent years, full of experience, hungry for silverware and desperate to pick up a trophy for the supporters and new owners. Wits are a quality team no doubt but with our new signings, a great coach and a belief in our system there is no reason we cannot lift the title," Gabonamong told Celtic's official website.
His teammate Musa Bilankulu echoed the same sentiments, saying, "I think perhaps this season is our year to win a major trophy and a victory here tonight will boost confidence throughout the ranks."
