The Citizens' search for their first points of the season continued after a 2-1 loss to AmaZulu on Saturday extended their losing streak to three matches.
Eric Tinkler's charges remained at the bottom of the log and are the only side without a point after three rounds of matches.
The Mother City side have since bolstered their squad with the signing of former TS Galaxy striker Wayde Lekay.
Moving to Maritzburg, they will also be looking to get their first victory of the campaign after they played to a goalless draw with Swallows last Friday.
The Citizens completed a league double over Maritzburg last season, with a 3-2 win at home and 1-0 victory away. The Team of Choice are yet to beat the Citizens since 2019.
