Chiefs Keen On Maritzburg's Young Attacker
The Siya crew can exclusively reveal that SA U23 youth international Rowan Human is being closely monitored by Kaizer Chiefs and a few more Gauteng- based clubs. The youngster, who initially burst onto the scene with Bidvest Wits in the 2019/20 campaign, has grown in leaps and bounds in what is his third season in the topflight.
It is not the first time that Human has attracted interest from Gauteng as there was strong local interest in his services upon the sale of Wits to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila in 2020. However, Human signed for Israeli top-flight side Maccabi Tel Aviv on a one-year contract, but was sent on loan to Israeli second division side Beitar Tel Aviv, where he shone brightly. The Westbury native then returned to the DStv Premiership, where he joined Maritzburg United in 2021.
In two seasons with the Team of Choice, he has amassed 48 appearances in total and has been a standout performer in what has been a bleak season for the side this season. The club's precarious situation, which sees them heading to the promotion/relegation play-offs, has meant that a number of teams have been watching the midfielder's situation with keen interest, amongst them Amakhosi. Siya sources have informed this publication that the Soweto giants have set their sights on the stocky star and are keen to bolster their midfield options with his acquisition.
According to the sources, the 22-year-old will see his contract with the Team of Choice come to an end in June 2023, with the club having an option to extend it for a further year. With the side not guaranteed a spot in the DStv Premiership next season, Chiefs will be hoping to pounce on Human.
… SuperSport Watching Closely
Kaizer Chiefs, however, are not the only club keen on Rowan Human's services. Siya sources in the know have informed Soccer Laduma that SuperSport United are another team that would like to have the attacker on their roster. It was current SuperSport United head coach, Gavin Hunt, who gave the player his big break three years ago and has remained a big fan of the youngster's talents, this publication has been informed.
Matsatsantsa find themselves in a bit of a conundrum in terms of their midfield options with both Grant Margeman and Siphesihle Ndlovu set to return to Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates respectively after spending the season with the Randburg- based outfit, who are keen on holding onto the duo. In the event that either one or both players do not return to Super- Sport, the club has identified Human as an ideal replacement for the Tshwane-based club next season.
Hunt could find himself having to build a completely new midfield from the one that led the side to a third-place finish in the DStv Premiership next season, with Human understood to be a key part of those plans. A hurdle for Hunt and SuperSport, however, could be the interest Amakhosi have expressed in the player.
There was a similar case with Seth Parusnath, who was wanted by both SuperSport and the Naturena-based side back in 2021, with the player even training with SuperSport. However, when the Soweto giants stepped up their interest, Matsatsantsa withdrew from the race as they would not be able to match Chiefs' offer to the player, who eventually joined Sekhukhune United, after the former withdrew their interest.
A similar case could unfold with Human, although Matsatsantsa's bargaining chip could be the promise of regular game-time, as there is no guarantee of the same at the Glamour Boys. With both clubs chasing the youngster, it remains to be seen where Human plays his football next season.
