According to Siya sources, Sundowns are working on reducing their squad, and Esquivel's future may be impacted.
"You know, there is alot going on at Sundowns in as far as player movements are concerned. Yes, Esquivel was recalled from the loan at Talleres Cordoba because they wanted to see if things will be different under Miguel Cardoso compared to Rulani Mokwena," a source revealed to the Siya crew.

"It is believed that the club will re-look at its foreign players in the new season, so his future at the club is not guaranteed," the insider added.
Another source revealed that the club is also looking to cut costs by reducing the foreign quota who are on high salaries.
"There are many factors that the club is looking at, including reducing the wage bill. So Matias Esquivel is one of the players whose future is believed to be not uncertain," the source added.
Esquivel joined Sundowns during the 2023/24 season, but after just nine appearances and one goal, he was loaned back to Talleres Cordoba, where he played 11 games. He was recalled to Sundowns in January but has only featured in one league match since then.
The Siya crew reached out to Sundowns for comment, but attempts were unsuccessful.
