A decision on the future of Mamelodi Sundowns defender Divine Lunga is set to be made, with the player possibly set to make a move in January or at the end of the season.
The Zimbabwean star returned to the Tshwane giants after spending the last campaign on loan at Golden Arrows and indications are that the Brazilians have been looking to register him as a local, which is why he has not featured in any of the matchday squads so far in 2023/24.
Despite the club's decision to seek permanent residency for the player, the Siya crew understands that Lunga is unlikely to get many opportunities to play once he is available, hence the possibility of making another move away from Chloorkop in a few months from now.
Sundowns have tough competition at left back, with Aubrey Modiba, Abdelmounaim Boutouil, Terrence Mashego and Sifiso Ngobeni all battling for a starting berth in the position. Mosa Lebusa has also been played there at times, making the 28-year-old's chances of playing even more difficult.
So, while the club has kept the defender in the team to perhaps call upon him in times of need, it's understood that he is hungry to get an opportunity to play. Abafana Bes'thende, in fact, were interested in having the Bulawayo-born man on loan for another season, but those plans fell flat.
It remains to be seen if the KZN outfit will make another effort to bring Lunga on board when the January transfer window opens.
