FRIDAY DEBATE: Does Sirino Still Have A Place At Downs?

FRIDAY DEBATE: Does Sirino Still Have A Place At Downs?

After Gaston Sirino made his first appearance of the season and scored on his return to the matchday squad, this week's Friday Debate asks if the Uruguayan can still play a major role in the team going forward, especially with the international players likely to get back into the starting line-up.

Sirino came off the bench in the Carling Knockout against TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium on Wednesday and scored the goal which completed the come back and sent the game into extra-time.

Sundowns, however, went on to lose in a penalty shootout, but Sirino certainly made his mark. Having recently been linked with a move away from the club, Soccer Laduma got in touch with former Sundowns players to ask if the club still needs the South American attacker.

Brent Carelse - former Sundowns midfielder

I think Sundowns will still need him, up until the time he goes. For now, he is still a Sundowns and they will need him, as you saw in the cup game. He adds a lot to the team and I think we must not take away what he has done for them and what he can still do as a player. He is a goal threat and he does well whenever he has been given an opportunity. Well done to him for bouncing back and hopefully he will keep on playing.

Tyren Arendse - former Sundowns striker

I think they still need him. If the boy is fit and he has no issues, I think he is still one of the better players in the team. Obviously Sundowns have signed some good players this season, but I still believe a fit Sirino would make a difference and help Sundowns. With the quality they have, I think they can do without him, but with him, I think they can do much more. Any team in the league would love to have him. Obviously if you don't play, you lose that match fitness and you lose your confidence. So, it is a bit difficult. But he came on the other night and he scored, so it means he is in a good space mentally. I hope things get sorted out soon, so that he can focus on his football. If he wants to leave, then obviously January will be the earliest time for him to leave and hopefully they can sort something out for him.
