Mamelodi Sundowns, under Miguel Cardoso, are on course to set a new record points haul at the end of the season, threatening to surpass a record set under Rulani Mokwena.
Sundowns became the fastest team to reach a 50-point mark, clocking 51 points in just 19 matches following their 4-2 thrashing of Sekhukhune United on Wednesday.
With a 15-point lead at the top of the Premiership standings, the only topic of discussion regarding Masandawana is what is the next record they can put their sight on?

It took Masandawana eight years to erase the record tally of 71 points at the end of a 30-match season, which was achieved under former coach Pitso Mosimane.
Mokwena set a new benchmark of 73 points at the end of the 2023/24 campaign and it appeared then, it was going to take years to surpass the new record margin tally of points.
However, within the following season, the current one, the Tshwane giants are on course to set a new record points haul under Cardoso post the 2024/25 term.
As things stand, Sundowns have won 17 out of 19 league matches, with ten wins out of their last 11 since the Portuguese coach took over taking their winning rate to 89,5%.

A statistical forecast from their current winning rate suggests that Masandawana are likely to win ten out of their remaining 11 games, which means Cardoso's charges could collect 30 points between now and the end of the season.
That projection means Sundowns are most likely to end on 81 points, should they maintain their winning rate and they would be eight points ahead of the current record haul of points achieved last season at the end of campaign.
However, the motivation will be different in the final stretch should Sundowns win the league with more games to spare and would be susceptible to dropping points, especially if they reach the closing stages of the CAF Champions League, which will be their priority.
