Concern Over Dove's On-Field Discipline At Chiefs

Concern Over Dove's On-Field Discipline At Chiefs

Concern has been raised over the discipline of Kaizer Chiefs player Edmilson Dove, who picked up a second red card of the season as Amakhosi dropped points yet again in the DStv Premiership.

The Mozambican international was sent off on the stroke of half-time against TS Galaxy at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday evening, after picking up two yellow cards in the space of 15 minutes.

The former Cape Town City defender was given a straight red card in a goalless draw against Moroka Swallows in March, for a foul as the last man on Gabadinho Mhango. With that red card, Dove missed the following matches against Golden Arrows and Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates.

Just last week, Dove missed the Premiership clash against champions Mamelodi Sundowns because he was suspended, after picking up a fourth yellow card in the 2-1 victory over SuperSport United.

Former Chiefs defender Mokete Tsotetsi raised his concern over the suspensions Dove is serving over the cards he has been getting, especially at a time Amakhosi need to have senior players like him on the pitch.

"It's very concerning, to be honest. Since the team has not been doing so well, you obviously need every single player that you have. He has been playing and they need him to play more, but when he has to serve suspensions at a crucial time in the season, then it affects the team in a way. The coach needs every player because they are trying to finish in the top eight," Tsotetsi said to the Siya crew.

"But you also need to consider that Dove is not a natural centre back. So, these kinds of things of getting red cards can happen. He is a full back, naturally. But it's concerning because the team needs every senior player to at least finish in the top eight."

Dove's deal with Amakhosi is due to expire at the end of June, but the club is expected to exercise the option on his contract.
