Why McCarthy Is Ready To Emulate Khoza & Mbokazi At Chiefs

With suggestions for Kaizer Chiefs to give young centre-back Aden McCarthy his big break, his father, club legend Fabian has revealed why his son is ready.

With Rushwin Dortley out injured, Chiefs have been urged by supporters to give finally McCarthy, 21, his big opportunity.

Amakhosi fans could be influenced by seeing fellow young centre-backs Malibongwe Khoza at Mamelodi Sundowns and recently Mbezekile Mbolazi at Orlando Pirates, getting opportunities to play in the first team.

McCarthy is regarded as one of the future stars, after he was selected in the recent Bafana CHAN squad doing duty in the qualifiers.

McCarthy's father Fabian has suggested that his son has been strong in being patient since he was promoted and that he's got all the tools to deal with the pressure of Chiefs jersey.

"He (Aden) just got the call-up (to Bafana recently), played a few minutes and he almost scored. I said to him you need to take this opportunity, even if it's five minutes, make it count," Fabian McCarthy said in an interview on Top Bins Podcast with Shaun Bartlett.

"What he has been going through for the past two years I must say he's really strong. He's doing the right things. I also reached out, I got him a psychologist, he's got a personal trainer.

"He's (also) doing boxing on the side, so I just allow him to get all these advices from different people. Even you guys (Shaunt Bartlett), when you meet him, just chat to him, I just want to be the father, I just wanna protect him and guide him. At the end of the day he has to make decisions, I said to him, 'It's your happiness', I don't want you to make me happy (while) you suffer," Fabian added.

Bafana have reached the final qualifying round for the CHAN after thrashing Egypt 4-2 on aggregate.
