Preparations are in full swing for the next match for Kaizer Chiefs under newly appointed interim coach Cavin Johnson and improvement in results is expected.
Johnson's first match in charge will be away to Golden Arrows on Saturday as Amakhosi will be hoping to move from 8th to a better position on the log.
The Soweto giants relieved Molefi Ntseki of his coaching duties after he led the club to just three wins, two draws and four losses in nine matches in the league.
The team was knocked out of the Carling Knockout in the opening round by AmaZulu last weekend, having also been unsuccessful in the MTN8 earlier in the season under the former Bafana Bafana mentor, and club legend Lucky Stylianou commented on the changes.
The Good
"I think Mr. Johnson's appointment came at the recommendation of one or two other coaches. I know Dr. (Kaizer) Motaung and the Sporting Director (Kaizer Motaung Jnr) wouldn't just make an appointment. They would first ask around before coming to a conclusion. I do see him (Johnson) becoming a head coach (permanently) but he's got to be a big man and prove that he can handle the pressure. I wish Mr. Johnson well, and hopefully he will get it right so that we can start winning going forward, but I do wish him well," said Stylianou.
The Bad
"I'm talking on behalf of management, Dr. Motaung and the supporters, the results have been disappointing. Realistically, with Kaizer Chiefs being the big brand that they are, they needed to act. It's not a question of whether Arthur (Zwane) or (Molefe) Ntseki was good enough or not, that's not the question. The question is, when are the results going to start unfolding? At a club like Kaizer Chiefs there is no time. You are not running an academy but you are running the biggest sporting brand in Southern Africa and you need to respect that. From listening to the comments of the coaches before and after games, I think they weren't sure themselves on how to go about certain departments. I always tell people that we are guided by the decisions of Dr. Motaung, the Sporting Director and the management. We are not going to criticise because doing so is not going to solve anything. But there has to be togetherness and the time is now and there should no more be dilly-dallying," he pointed out.
The Ugly
"I believe all previous five or six coaches underperformed and that is not to say due to lack of ability, but maybe the club was to blame due to maybe that some of the players that were brought didn't fit in. The thing about Kaizer Chiefs and the brand and the weight of the jersey is, if you see a good player, you don't just go for that player. The question is, does that good player have the intelligence or the emotional ability to deal with such a huge demand? It could not be a talent problem but it could be that the players do not have the emotional ability to deal with such huge crowds and the demands that are needed to produce the results for a big club like Kaizer Chiefs," concluded Stylianou.
