There's no denying Bongani Sam has the talent and quality to play in the Betway Premiership, but playing in Gauteng has proven to be difficult for the player who is yet to reach his full potential since leaving Bloemfontein Celtic.
Sam introduced himself to the South African public while he was in the colours of Celtic and started attracting a lot of attention in Gauteng and Soweto giants Orlando Pirates won the race to sign the player, who was part of the national under-23 team at the time.

But a lack of regular game, and at times injury, hampered his progress with the Buccaneers, which led to him making loan moves to Maritzburg United and then Moroka Swallows.
After parting ways with Pirates at the end of last season, Kaizer Chiefs stepped in to give the 27-year-old an opportunity. He trained with Amakhosi before the club made a decision to sign, as he travelled with them to Turkey for their pre-season tour.
But he suffered a big blow as he picked up an injury which delayed his progress, with Amakhosi also signing Bradley Cross.
Cross is currently the preferred left back and Sam has to wait his turn to finally get his opportunity under head coach Nasreddine Nabi. Since making the move to Naturena, Sam is yet to make an appearance for the Soweto giants and will be hoping he does not have the same spell he did while he was at Pirates.

But with Cross showing good form at left back for Amakhosi, he could struggle to get into the starting line-up.
