With Kaizer Chiefs in the market to appoint a new coach, this week's Friday Debate finds out which will work best for Amakhosi - a local or foreign coach?
Amakhosi parted ways with Molefi Ntseki on Monday and Cavin Johnson has been appointed as interim coach, while they search for someone who will come in and turn things around for the club. Soccer Laduma spoke to two individuals who believe that the best way for Amakhosi to move forward is with a foreign coach. Chiefs, after all, have succeeded most in the PSL era with foreign coaches at the helm.

I think, at the moment, I would say they should look outside of the country. They were linked with Naby, who was supposed to be appointed by Chiefs. I think he is someone they can go for, if he is still interested in the job and just to try to bring in a fresh way of thinking and a different dimension altogether. So, I would go outside the country. History shows that the local coaches are not bringing any weight in terms of coaching at Chiefs, so that's why I think they should go outside. If Naby is still keen, then they should bring him in and see what he can do. I think he has got the experience to come in and make a change for Chiefs.
Thulani Nombali - Chiefs supporter
The chairman once said that no South African coach is fit enough for Kaizer Chiefs. I think there is some truth in that because there's been a few South African coaches who have worked at the club, but there has not been much success. You look at Steve Komphela. He didn't do well. I think the only coach I am caught in two minds about is Gavin Hunt. I think he had so many things working against him, but he got so far in the CAF Champions League and I thought it was quite something to achieve. Locally, he could not cope, for whatever reason. But coming to the question, I think the only coach who is fit enough for Chiefs in South Africa is Pitso Mosimane. If it's not Pitso, then it would have to be a co-coaching task, where two coaches help each other because when I look at it, no one is fit enough to do that job. History has proven that coaches coming from outside can bring joy to Kaizer Chiefs. Why? I really don't know, because some of them come without a proven track record, but they are able to do well at Chiefs. I think they should rather go that route. Get a coach abroad and what's good now is that we have players who are willing and able. We just need a structure. If we can get a coach from outside, I think we can do well.
