Resurgent Arrows Thrash Swallows

Resurgent Arrows Thrash Swallows

Golden Arrows were in a rampant mood after thrashing Swallows FC 4-0 in a DStv Premiership encounter on Saturday afternoon.

DStv Premiership

Result: Golden Arrows 4-0 Swallows FC

Date: 17 September 2022

Venue: Princes Magogo Stadium

Arrows were unchanged from their loss to Mamelodi Sundowns, with Pule Mmodi, Sibiya and Velemseni Ndwandwe playing behind lone striker Knox Mutizwa.

The Birds meanwhile, rotated the side as Pentjie Zulu, Kwanda Mngonyama, Yagan Sasman, Darrel Matsheke, Keegan Allan and Mwape Musonda were brought back.

The hosts had a dream start after Sibiya gave them the lead on 13 minutes with a clinical penalty after he was fouled in the box by Yagan Sasman.

Abafana Bes'thende capitalised from a poor clearance by goalkeeper Thakasani Mbanjwa, as Mmodi doubled their lead just a minute later with a lobbed effort over the shot-stopper for his fourth goal in as many games.

Dylan Kerr's charges struggled to combine going forward and looked unsettled at the bac, which saw the Swallow coach withdraw Sasman for Wandisile Letlabika towards the end of the first stanz.

Swallows were fired up coming from the break as they created a couple of chances but they were not decisive in the last third.

The opposite can be said for the home side, as Sibiya killed the game and grabbed his brace with a strike from the edge of the box after a cut-back by Mmodi from a swift attack.

The Birds capitulated after that as Nqobeko Dlamini made it 4-0 for Arrows in the last 20 minutes with a great strike after Mmodi's shot came off the post.

Arrows continued to be in control of the game and kept Swallows on their toes with a double attacking change as Ryan Moon replaced Ndwandwe and Andile Fikizolo came on for Sibiya.

Swallows were dead and buried in the dying minutes as Abafana Bes'thende saw out the rest of the clash with relative ease.

Here's how they lined up:

Golden Arrows: Gumede, Ndlovu, Nxadi, Zuke, Lunga, Dube, Dlamini, Mmodi, Sibiya, Ndwandwe, Mutizwa
