The story
Orlando Pirates officially launched their new adidas Home and Away jerseys for the 24/25 season, designed as an ode to James 'Sofasonke' Mpanza, the "Father of Soweto."
The launch saw Orlando Pirates players, Thabiso Monyane, Makhehlene Makhaula and Deon Hotto modelling the club's new black Home strip and green Away ensemble, with the former being described by the Buccaneers as a Home kit that represents the club's DNA.
"The Home jersey features the legendary Orlando Pirates logo and a black, white, and red colour palette, presenting a sleek and forward-facing aesthetic. In celebration of culture and community, the Away jersey symbolises diversity through colour and introduces a seasonal green tone," revealed Pirates in a press release on their website.
The kits were launched at the Orlando Stadium, hosted by musician and presenter, Robot Boii, with actor and TikTok sensation, Primo Baloyi, also in attendance.
Veteran musician and producer, Arthur Mafokate and actor Kenneth Nkosi also made their presence felt at the kit launch this week.
Although his father, Lucas Radebe is a Kaizer Chiefs legend, Primo is a passionate Buccaneers supporter shared a raving review on the Home jersey:
"Ah man, this new jersey is so gorgeous, it's classic. It's not too much, especially the Home kit. It just reminds us of the glory days, the simple days."
"Simplicity is key man," added Robot Boii, who expressed his love for both designs: "The black is giving simple, but also bold. You know, all black you can never go wrong. I love the Home jersey and the Away kit," he added.
