The story
The Springboks started their three-match European tour on a positive note with a comprehensive 32-15 win over Scotland at Murrayfield in Edinburgh on Sunday, regaining their number one spot in the World Rugby rankings.
In the build up to their hard-fought victory over the Scots, South African football's all-time leading goal scorer paid the World Champions a visit during their captain's run on Saturday.
McCarthy, who is based in Edinburgh and married to a Scot, brought his two youngest children along for a visit he described as a "once in a lifetime" opportunity for him.
The Bafana Bafana legend reserved special praise for Rassie Erasmus' men after their captain's run and mentioned how close he felt to home by being with the Springboks.
"It was just nice to be surrounded with South Africans again, on away soil and just to be able to speak a little Afrikaans was so nice. So yeah, that was good. Rassie and the team were excellent, you know, I was well received so I can't be more happy than that," said Benni in his chat with SuperSport TV rugby commentator, Matthew Pearce.
