Reports suggest that Arsenal are set to lose their captain on a free transfer in the upcoming transfer window.
According to L'Equipe, French striker Alexandre Lacazette will leave the Emirates Stadium soon, with his contract set to expire at the end of this month.
The France international was brought in by former Gunners boss Arsene Wenger at the beginning of the 2017/18 season from Olympique Lyon for €53 million (R880 million), but it now seems the 31-year-old could be making a spectacular return to Ligue 1.
It is further suggested that the Lyon native is nearing a return to the Groupama Stadium, with his former team eager to take him back to the club when he becomes a free agent.
Having started on the bench in his last eight Premier League fixtures of the 2021/22 campaign, it seemed the writing was on the wall for the Frenchman at Arsenal.
With Lyon having failed to qualify for European football next season and having a youthful squad, perhaps Lacazette envisages himself being the undisputed leader of the young side, who can help them mature and grow into a competitive force in the French top flight.
The forward will leave north London having scored 71 goals and provided 36 assists, and with an FA Cup winner's medal too.
