El Clasico, Manchester Derby & Much More This Festive Season

El Clasico, Manchester Derby & Much More This Festive Season

With the festive season approaching, football fans are in for some treats dished out by SuperSport. Tonight, Jose Mourinho will return to his former employers, while the Manchester derby and El Clasico await later in the month.

League seasons always seem to be defined in December. With the fixtures coming thick and fast, it's the period when a club's squad is tested the most and when the table begins to take shape – when the contenders are confirmed and the strugglers are identified.

Wednesday, 4 December, SS3 Kick-off at 21:30 (CAT)

It's a fixture most eyes turned to as soon as Jose Mourinho was named the new Tottenham Hotspur manager as the "Special One" returns to Old Trafford in his third league game in charge of Spurs. It was a dramatic fixture for Mourinho when he was Manchester United manager last season, ending in a 3-0 win for the Lilywhites that prompted his now-famous retort about how he's won more Premier League titles than the rest of the league's managers combined.

Friday, 6 December, SS8 (SA) SS9 (ROA) Kick-off at 21:45 (CAT)

In a league where Juventus have been champions eight years in a row, Inter Milan are putting up a great fight for the Scudetto this season. Roma, though, have been somewhat of a bogey side for them recently, with the Nerazzurri having won only once in their past seven Serie A meetings.

Saturday, 7 December, SS3 Kick-off at 19:30 (CAT)

There has been a definite shift in football power in the city of Manchester, so the Red Devils will be keen to dent their rivals' title hopes when they meet at the Etihad. City have lost only one of their past six league meetings with United and pulled off the double of home and away wins against them last season.

Tuesday, 10 December, SS6 (SA) SS3 (ROA) Kick-off at 22:00 (CAT)

While Barcelona go into the game already guaranteed a place in the last 16, Inter will need a positive result in their last group game as they sit second in the group, level on points with Borussia Dortmund. The Nerazzurri have only beaten the Catalans once in their past nine meetings in the competition, and will probably need to win again if they are to make the knockouts for the first time since 2012.

Wednesday, 11 December, SS3 (SA) SS5 (ROA) Kick-off at 22:00 (CAT)

After being on the receiving end of a 7-2 humiliation in the reverse fixture, Spurs will look to offer far more of a fight under the guidance of Jose Mourinho. He will have fond memories of playing Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League, though, as they were the opponents in the final when he won the tournament with Inter Milan in 2010.

Sunday, 15 December, SS3 Kick-off at 18:30 (CAT)

It's been a difficult start to the season for the Gunners, who need a positive performance against the defending champions to boost their campaign. Manchester City go into the game having won their past five matches in all competitions against Arsenal – their longest-ever winning streak against them.

Wednesday, 18 December, SS7 Kick-off at 21:30 (CAT)

Postponed from its original date in October, the much-anticipated first El Clasico of the season awaits us as part of what's shaping up to be a tight La Liga title race. Real Madrid haven't beaten Barcelona in their past six meetings, including a humiliating 5-1 defeat in this fixture last season. It'll be the first match between the Spanish giants since Zinedine Zidane's return to Los Blancos, with the Frenchman boasting an unbeaten record at the Camp Nou as a manager.

Saturday, 21 December, SS3 Kick-off at 19:30 (CAT)

Leicester's resurgence under Brendan Rodgers makes this a game against the back-to-back champions a must-watch during the festive period. The Foxes have beaten Manchester City away from home only once in the past 16 years, with that win being their famous 3-1 triumph in 2015/16 on their way to a fairytale title victory.

Thursday, 26 December, SS3 Kick-off at 22:00 (CAT)

While plenty of interest will be on Brendan Rodgers as he welcomes his former employers to the King Power Stadium, it'll also be a great opportunity for Leicester to show their credentials in the battle for the top four. Jamie Vardy scored arguably his most iconic goal against Liverpool in their title-winning season, and will be keen to repeat the feat for the Foxes this time around.

Sunday, 29 December, SS3 Kick-off at 16:00 (CAT)

It'll be the last game of 2019 for both clubs when they meet in a high-profile London derby at the Emirates. It's been even between the teams of late, with two wins apiece in their past four matches against each other. Their last meeting? The UEFA Europa League final, when Chelsea came out victorious.
