Result: Real Madrid 2-0 Eibar
Date: 03 April 2021
Venue: Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano
Real Madrid moved three points behind LaLiga leaders Atletico Madrid with a 2-0 victory over Eibar on Saturday evening.
Los Blancos manager Zinedine Zidane made four changes from their last win over Celta Vigo as Eder Militao, Marcelo, Isco and Marco Asensio were all recalled.
The hosts had the ball in the back of the net after five minutes when Karim Benzema nodded home from close range, but the effort was disallowed for an offside against the Real striker.
The frustration began to grow for Los Blancos as Asensio saw his curling free-kick crash against the crossbar with Marko Dmitrovic well-beaten midway through the first half.
Asensio would not be denied five minutes before the break, with the Spanish midfielder breaking the deadlock with a clinical finish over the on-rushing Dmitrovic.
Zidane's charges continued from where they left off in the first, with Asensio looking to bag his second goal with an effort from distance that Dmitrovic managed to tip over the bar.
The third goal arrived in the 73rd minute when Benzema continued his fine form with a free header from close range after getting on the end of Vinicius Junior's cross for his sixth goal in four games.
That proved to be Benzema's final contribution as he was replaced by Mariano Diaz while Eibar threw on Kevin Rodrigues and Miguel Atienza for the final 10 minutes.
Nevertheless, the two goals were enough to secure maximum points for the defending champions who move above Barcelona into second spot, three points behind Atletico.
