Despite Barca wrapping up LaLiga early and qualifying for yet another Copa del Rey, a sour taste has been left in the mouths of their players and fans due to their shock UEFA Champions League exit at the hands of Liverpool.

Manager Ernesto Valverde and the club's sporting directors are believed to be looking at potential transfer targets ahead of the 2019/20 season, with De Jong's signature obtained in January this year.

According to Sport, the Blaugrana are also closing on the signing of De Ligt, a 19-year-old centre-back many believe is one of the hottest properties in world football, but how will the club line up if the 2018 Golden Boy is lured to Spain?

With Germany international Marc-Andre ter Stegen in goal, it is likely that the Netherlands defender would partner up with the experienced Gerard Pique. As someone who has won everything there is to win, the Spaniard's guidance would be vital in De Ligt's progress.

Samuel Umtiti has been linked with a move away from the Catalans due to the many injury struggles he has been through this season, while De Ligt's likely arrival may also see Clement Lenglet slowly being worked out of Valverde's strongest XI.

De Jong, who is said to prefer playing as a holding midfielder, might have to wait a while before being the team's first-choice anchor, with Sergio Busquets still very much a key first-team member. Valverde may seek to rotate more than he has this season, but fans can also expect to see Busquets and De Jong line up together.

With those two being natural ball players, Valverde might opt for the hard-tackling Arturo Vidal as his third midfielder, especially considering that Ivan Rakitic's future at the club is uncertain. Arthur, however, will also get plenty of first-team football in the 2019/20 campaign.
