Red Devils coach Erik ten Hag made four changes from the loss to Tottenham Hotspur, with Rasmus Hojlund getting his first start while Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Amad Diallo were all recalled. The hosts got off to the perfect start when Marcus Rashford weaved his way into the box before unleashing a low shot which sailed under the leg of goalkeeper Diogo Costa, who should have done better.
The lead was doubled in the 19th minute as Rashford turned provider to play in Hojlund, who opened his account for the campaign with a first-time finish at the near post.
Seven minutes later though, the home side were able to pull a goal back when Pepe headed home from close range after Andre Onana brilliantly stopped Noussair Mazraoui's headed clearance from going into the back of the net.
Porto completed the comeback ten minutes before the halftime break when Samu Omorodion powered home a header from close range after getting on the end of Joao Lopes' cross in the six-yard box.
The hosts carried that momentum into the second period and took the lead for the first time when Pepe surged towards the box before pulling the ball back for Samu, who slammed home his second goal of the night.
Ten Hag made his first changes for the visiting side after 67 minutes as Hojlund and Diallo made way for Joshua Zirkzee and Antony as they went in search of the equaliser in the final half an hour.
Things got worse for the Red Devils with ten minutes to play when captain Bruno Fernandes was sent off for a second successive game after picking up his second yellow card for a high boot.
With the game seemingly headed for a Porto win, substitute Harry Maguire came to the rescue by meeting Eriksen's corner and heading into the bottom corner to rescue a point for the Red Devils.
