With head coach Xavi Hernandez looking to bring in a new right-back before the window slams shut, City's Joao Cancelo has emerged as the Spanish tactician's ideal signing.
The Portugal international was loaned out to Bayern Munich in January last season after a reported fallout with Pep Guardiola over his playing time in England.
Cancelo has since returned to the Citizens, and has been involved in the club's preparations for the coming campaign, but is expected to be sold in the coming weeks.
According to talkSPORT, the Blaugrana have already opened talks to sign the 29-year-old, whom Xavi admitted to wanting to lure to Spain before his temporary switch to Germany.
It is suggested that the Catalan club's financial situation means they prefer the idea of landing Cancelo on a season-long loan with an option to purchase him permanently at a later stage.
Ousmane Dembele's impending departure could provide the LALIGA champions with the financial wiggle room to acquire his services, but it remains to be seen if a deal with City can be struck.
