It's now only 9 days until the next El Clasico and Luis Suarez's debut for FC Barcelona. In this fourth feature we take a look at the Uruguayan's goal-scoring records.
The prolific striker was handed the Golden Shoe for being the joint top-scorer of the last campaign in Europe's top leagues, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.
Suarez moved from local Uruguayan side Nacional to Groningen in 2006, because he wanted to be closer to his girlfriend, and current wife, Sofia Balbi, who had moved to Barcelona. At Groningen he scored 10 goals in 29 games and was then scouted by Ajax.
During his 3.5-year-spell at Ajax he scored 111 goals in 158 games for the Dutch side and was twice named Ajax's Player of the Year as well as the Dutch Footballer of the Year in 2009. He ended the 2008/09 season as top goal-scorer with 35 goals in 33 games and started the new season in similar fashion. However, on 20 November 2010, he bit Otman Bakkal and was subsequently suspended for seven league games.
During his suspension, the Ajax captain was transferred to Liverpool for €26.5 million. His first 1.5-years at Anfield were disappointing by his standers and saw him scoring just 24 goals. The following season has was the Premier League second-best goal-scorer with 23 goals and was named Liverpool's Player of the Year.
The 2013/14 season was his best season at Anfield and his 31 Premier League goals took his total tally to 82 in 133 games for the Reds. He became the first non-European to win the PFA Player of the Year and also won the Barclay's Premier League Player of the Season.
On international level, he has scored 42 goals in 81 games which have seen him become Uruguay's all-time top-scorer. Overall, he has scored 246 goals for club and country.
