2017 AFCON Report: Tunisia v Senegal 15 January 2017

AFCON - Group B

Result: Tunisia 0-2 Senegal

Date: 15 January 2017

Venue: Stade de Franceville

Sadio Mane was among the goals for Senegal as they claimed a 2-0 win over Tunisia in their opening Africa Cup of Nations clash.

Tunisia should have broken the deadlock after just two minutes Maloul's free-kick found Akaichi, who headed wide from close range.

Senegal were awarded a penalty after nine minutes when Aymen Abdennour brought down Cheikhou Kouyate. Sadio Mane stepped up and converted the spot-kick, 1-0.

The Lions of Teranga doubled their lead in the 30th minute as Kare Mbodji get on the end of Mane's corner to power a header past the helpless Mathlouthi, 2-0.

Tunisia enjoyed most of the possession for the rest of the half, but struggled to carve out any clear-cut chances as the score remained 2-0 at the break.

Wahbi Khazri's introduction seemed to have spark Tunisia into life, as they started seeing more of the ball and showed urgency going forward.

Mbodji nearly gifted Tunisia a way back into the clash after 69 minutes, as his attempted clearance crashed against Abdoulaye Diallo's upright.

Senegal had Diallo to thank for keeping a clean sheet, as the goalkeeper produced a super save to deny Msakni from close range in the 79th minute.

The Tunisians dominated the closing stages, but were let down by their decision-making in the final third, as Senegal claimed the victory.
