Sadio Mane was among the goals for Senegal as they claimed a 2-0 win over Tunisia in their opening Africa Cup of Nations clash.
Tunisia should have broken the deadlock after just two minutes Maloul's free-kick found Akaichi, who headed wide from close range.
Senegal were awarded a penalty after nine minutes when Aymen Abdennour brought down Cheikhou Kouyate. Sadio Mane stepped up and converted the spot-kick, 1-0.
The Lions of Teranga doubled their lead in the 30th minute as Kare Mbodji get on the end of Mane's corner to power a header past the helpless Mathlouthi, 2-0.
Tunisia enjoyed most of the possession for the rest of the half, but struggled to carve out any clear-cut chances as the score remained 2-0 at the break.
Wahbi Khazri's introduction seemed to have spark Tunisia into life, as they started seeing more of the ball and showed urgency going forward.
Mbodji nearly gifted Tunisia a way back into the clash after 69 minutes, as his attempted clearance crashed against Abdoulaye Diallo's upright.
Senegal had Diallo to thank for keeping a clean sheet, as the goalkeeper produced a super save to deny Msakni from close range in the 79th minute.
The Tunisians dominated the closing stages, but were let down by their decision-making in the final third, as Senegal claimed the victory.
