2017 AFCON - Group A
Result: Burkina Faso 1-1 Cameroon
Date: 14 January 2017
Venue: Stade d'Angondjé
Cameroon and Burkina Faso had to settle for a share of the spoils, after playing out a 1-1 draw in their opening Afcon encounter.
The Indomitabe Lions nearly opened the scoring after 19 minutes, as Christian Bassogog fired into the side-netting after a fine run.
Cameroon eventually broke the deadlock after 35 minutes via a set piece, as captain Benjamin Moukandjo curled the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box.
It was one way traffic for the rest of the half, and the Lions nearly doubled their lead in the 40th minute, but Kouakou Koffi produced a superb save to deny Clinton N'Jie.
Burkina Faso could have drew level just before the break, but Fabrice Ondoa did well to keep out Prejuce Nakoulma's stinging effort.
Cameroon squandered a good chance to extend their advantage 10 minutes into the second half when N'Jie fired wide of the upright from six-yards out.
Burkina Faso opted for a change after 60 minutes, as Bertrand Traore was replaced by Banou Diawara as they looked for a way back into the clash.
The Stallions leveled matters in the 75th minute Issoufou Dayo bundled the ball over line, after Ondoa could only parry Diawara's free-kick.
Both nations pushed for a winner in the closing stages of the encounter, but were unable to carve out clear-cut chances as the clash ended 1-1.
