VAR,a success story or a flop?
The Video Assistant Referee is being used for the first in a World Cup. And already there are 8 penalties that have been awarded due to it,with 5 of them being given in the same day. This tournament is already nicknamed 'the penalty world cup'. Not many people can argue against the need to implement VAR as teams got knocked out of previous cups unfairly. Is the rise in penalties a sign of VAR's success seeing that many offenders that used to go unpunished are being brought to book? Or players have learnt to cheat the system seeing that it is easy to just fall in the box with the slightest of touches?
