The 20-year-old has proven to be a talismanic figure for the Buccaneers this season, spearheading their attack in their aspirations to win the Betway Premiership and the CAF Champions League.
Mofokeng has scored eight goals and provided 11 assists in the 29 matches he has played across all competitions, and it is this form that has intrigued football clubs worldwide.
One of the outfits that looked to steal a march on the rest of the Bafana Bafana attacker's suitors was the White Knights.
The Siya crew can confirm that on the final day of the Egyptian transfer market, 8 February, Zamalek submitted a formal offer to the Sea Robbers for Mofokeng's services, which was understood to be worth $1.4 million (R25.8 million).
Like Pirates, the North African giants are in contention to win domestic and continental honours and were looking to reinforce their squad before heading into the second half of the campaign.
Mofokeng is believed to be a prime target for Zamalek, but this publication has been informed that the 1995 African champions rejected the offer for the youngster.

The South African side are believed to want $2 million (R37 million) for the forward, although it remains unclear whether the Sharpeville native is open to, following in the footsteps of the likes of Elias Mokwena and Khanyisa Mayo, who have recently moved to North Africa, or if he would prefer to take the step to Europe.
The Siya crew made attempts to contact Pirates for comment, but no response was received at the time of publishing.
