According to reports, the 28-year-old's departure midway through the season was partly motivated by Masandawana's desire to register foreign players Lucas Suarez and Matias Esquivel following their arrival from CA Talleres in Argentina.
Saavedra has now closed the chapter on his time in South Africa after making just 13 appearances in all competitions for Sundowns, according to Transfermarkt.
A statement on Bolívar's official website read; "Erwin Saavedra Flores, an iconic player in the history of Club Bolivar, will once again wear the shirt of Bolivia's most decorated team.
"His 315 matches for Bolivar make him one of the footballers who has contributed the most to the club's success. His return marks the comeback of both a great player and a true Bolivar supporter.
"Saavedra (born 22 February 1996) played his first professional match for the historic Bolívar team of 2014. In Bolivian football, he made his debut in a clash between Academia and Oriente Petrolero in March of that year. Internationally, he played his first match under Xabier Azkargorta in April, when the team secured a 2-2 draw away to León, the club of Rafa Márquez.
"Last year, Club Bolivar honoured Saavedra by presenting him with a framed shirt bearing the number 300, in recognition of reaching that significant milestone of matches played for Bolivia's most glorious team.
"At Bolivar, Saavedra has played 315 matches—266 in domestic tournaments and 49 in international competitions.
"Abroad, the player from Oruro had stints at Goiás in Brazil in 2017 and at South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns from 2022 to 2023, as well as the second half of 2024."
"Saavedra is back, with the unwavering support of Club Bolivar's president, Marcelo Claure. His experience and leadership will be essential in this historic centenary year for the club."
