The Portuguese tactician has endured a wretched start to life as Red Devils boss. After going unbeaten in his first three matches in charge, the 39-year-old has lost six of his last eight matches.
The club's most recent defeat came at the hands of Newcastle United in the Premier League, with the Mancunians falling 2-0 to the Geordies at Old Trafford.
After the match, Amorim claimed that recruiting in January to address the situation is unlikely.
However, according to the Daily Star, the Lisboa native has been working behind the scenes to orchestrate potential moves.
The English publication reports that the former Sporting CP manager has been urging the club's board to sign his former star, Viktor Gyokeres, during this transfer window. The Swede joined Sporting following a prolific stint in the EFL Championship with Coventry City in 2023.
Since then, the Scandinavian has been a consistent goal scorer. In his first season, the Stockholm native netted 43 goals in all competitions, and this campaign he has already found the back of the net on 27 occasions.
