Following his trial last month, a court in the southern city of Nice has ruled that Wissam Ben Yedder is guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in September last year.
The 34-year-old striker has been given a suspended prison sentence of two years and has been ordered to pay compensation of €5 000 (R95 963) to the victim, his lawyer told the Associated Press.
The former AS Monaco forward was accused of sexually assaulting a woman while intoxicated.
While the prosecution sought a jail sentence of two years and six months, with 18 months suspended, and that he pay €25 000 (R479 649) in damages, the court settled on a two-year suspended sentence and the aforementioned compensation.
Ben Yedder was detained shortly after the incident but was released soon after. He was then arrested at his home after refusing to stop his car on the French Riviera.
After his arrest, he admitted that he drove under the influence, then revealed during the trial that he was so drunk that night he has no recollection of forcing himself on the woman in question.
The court also ordered that the ex-Bordeaux player have his licence suspended for six months and that he undergo alcohol detox and therapy.
