The 25-year-old is believed to have signed contracts to purchase an 80% stake in Ligue 2 outfit SM Caen on Tuesday night.
This is according to French publication L'Equipe, who say that the new Los Blancos No. 9 can officially be considered the club's new owner after completing formalities.
It was reported earlier this week that Mbappe becoming Caen's majority owner will help solve the team's debt issues, with the France international said to have paid €20 million (R399 million) as part of the deal.
The move sees the forward join a long list of current and former footballers who have gone into club ownership, with Barcelona legend Gerard Pique owning FC Andorra in Spain and David Beckham being co-owner of Inter Miami.
Mbappe's day-to-day involvement is expected to be minimal considering his own busy schedule, after joining Los Blancos as a free agent earlier this month.
