The next few weeks are seemingly poised to be career-defining for the Dutch defender.
Earlier this week, he and the Netherlands were eliminated from the 2024 UEFA European Championship courtesy of England, making it yet another major international tournament he has failed to win.
At 33 years old, he is also approaching the final year of his contract at Anfield. The Reds saw Jurgen Klopp bid farewell to the club earlier this year, and to replace him, the English giants have brought in Arne Slot as their new head coach.
With those big changes taking place, Van Dijk has since revealed that he will use the coming weeks to ponder whether or not he will continue with the Fly Dutchmen as well as the Merseysiders.
"I haven't the slightest idea right now," the former Southampton man said after their 2-1 EURO 2024 semi-final loss to the Three Lions, as per ESPN.
"I will think carefully this summer about what I want at club level and as an international player. Then we'll go for it again, but first recover from this.
"After a season like this, where all kinds of things have happened, it gets emotional at the end because you know it's over."
