Mailula recently returned to South Africa for a well-deserved break following his switch to the USA in July last year.
In that time, he managed to catch some local football in the form of the popular Philly's games, a tournament that has given many a star, Mailula included, a platform to express their talent and be scouted by professional teams.
Speaking to broadcast giant SuperSport, the 22-year-old reflected on the tournament as well as the opportunity it provides for budding footballers.
"It was actually nice to play ekasi," he told SuperSport.
"I've enjoyed my time playing ekasi especially tournaments in like, in festive seasons. It's always nice, you get to enjoy and express yourself. I think this is where I got to be seen at Sundowns, so this is where they saw my talent and they've given me a chance to explore myself in the PSL also," he continued.
Mailula made three appearances for Toronto FC in the season gone by, with all his appearances coming as a substitute.
