Chiefs Step Up Chase For Former Al Ahly Striker?

Kaizer Chiefs could be renewing their interest in a former Al Ahly striker, the Siya crew has been informed.

Siya sources close to the club have indicated that Amakhosi now have a better chance at bringing in DR Congo striker Walter Bwalya.

Soccer Laduma had previously reported that the striker could have been on Chiefs' wanted list, but the difference now is that Bwalya is a free agent, so, in theory, the club doesn't have to wait for the January transfer window.

"The technical team feels that they still need another outright striker and in one of the meetings Walter (Bwalya's) name came up," said the Siya source.

"They feel with his experience playing in Egypt and other leagues, that could help with the scoring problems at the club. What I don't know is whether they have already approached him or his representatives.

"But I know that the club really wants to bring him on board," the source told Soccer Laduma.

A second source added that since the 28-year-old is currently a free agent then the deal could happen earlier than expected.

"The club inquired about his services while he was still at Al Ahly in Egypt. Things didn't work out that time but now since he is a free agent maybe things will be different," said the second source.

"The club is looking for a striker and they have identified Walter Bwalya as their next target. It could be earlier than January because he is a free agent but it's also up to the technical team to say when do they need him," the source observed.

Bwalya was previously on loan at Turkish club Yeni Malatyaspor, Qatar's Al-Sailiya, and Saudi club Al-Qadsiah. Before joining Al Ahly in 2021 he had impressed at Egyptian club El-Gouna, scoring 16 goals in 35 matches.

Soccer Laduma contacted Chiefs for comment but no response was received while preparing this story.
