The Siya crew understands that the door is not closed for Njabulo Ngcobo to stay at Kaizer Chiefs beyond the end of the current season.
The former Moroka Swallows player's contract with the club is due to expire in June 2024 and, following the appointment of Molefi Ntseki as head coach at the beginning of this season, indications are that there is hope for a new deal.
While it's still too early in the season to tell, the 29-year-old's return to the team and overall hard work has impressed the technical team and management at Naturena, and the coming months will be important in deciding whether or not he gets a new deal at the club.
The defender-cum-midfielder's future at the Soweto giants was in doubt last season under former coach Arthur Zwane and, in fact, it appeared he was on his way out. But a lot changed when Ntseki was appointed and he will now see out his contract, with the possibility of an extension.
Ngcobo has worked his way back into the team, playing 90 minutes in Amakhosi's last two DStv Premiership matches, against Sekhukhune United and Cape Town City respectively. He has made five appearances in all competitions this season, which is nine less than he managed all of last term.
With things looking up for the former PSL Defender of the Season, he could make more appearances than he did last season, which will no doubt increase his chances of securing a new deal at Naturena.
