Blaugrana were without striker Robert Lewandowski due to injury and his place was taken by Ferran Torres, who formed a three-pronged attack alongside Joao Felix and Lamine Yamal.
Granada had a storming start after Bryan Zaragoza gave them the lead within the first 17 seconds with a strike past goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen from a lightning counter-attack after Barca lost possession, the fastest goal Blaugrana conceded in 21st century LaLiga history.
Xavi's charges saw a lot of the ball after that but they were not creating clear chances and found themselves 2-0 behind just before the half-hour mark after Zaragoza was played through on goal and dummied a shot that took Jules Kounde out of sight and he lifted a strike past ter Stegen and grabbed his brace.
Barcelona increased the intensity of their attacks, showing real urgency upfront and Yamal pulled a goal back on the stroke of half-time with an easy tap-in after a shot by Felix across the defence, becoming the youngest scorer in LaLiga history.
The Catalans were back on the front foot from the break but they were denied spaces in the last third and only had their first shot on target from the interval on 69 minutes, as Torres was denied by goalkeeper Andre Ferreira from close-range.
Xavi made a bold change in the 16 minutes as he withdrew Yamal and brought on Oriol Romeu for fresh legs upfront.
Blaugrana started threatening in front of goal after that as Ronald Araujo missed a good chance after dribbling his way through on goal.
Second-half substitute Sergi Roberto eventually levelled matters for Barca five minutes before time with a tap-in in the six-yard box after a low cross by Alejandro Balde and Granada wanted the goal chalked off after one of their players fell down in the box after he collided with Felix but the goal stood.
Granada nearly snatched the winner just after that after Zaragoza hit the bottom of the post with a strike from another quick counter-attack.
Felix found the back of the net for Barca in stoppage time with a header at the back post but the goal was disallowed and confirmed to he offside in the build-up by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), as the sides settled for a point apiece.
Barca lost ground by three points to leaders Real Madrid in third place on the log while Granada remained second-from-bottom.
