The Giallorossi claimed their first victory of the 2023/24 league campaign following a memorable night at the Stadio Olimpico, after losing twice and drawing once before the weekend's win over Empoli.
Paulo Dybala, Renato Sanches and Lukaku were among the goalscorers in what was a humiliating night for the away side, who are without a point after four Serie A matches this season.
Speaking after the game, Mourinho admitted to having sympathy for Sunday's opponents.
"I feel sorry for them, but this is football and sometimes it happens," he told DAZN.
On the importance of Lukaku scoring his first goal for Roma, the Portuguese tactician insisted he was more concerned about the dynamic the Belgium international will bring to his side.
"[Lukaku's goal] wasn't important to me, maybe it was to him," he added.
"I care about the team, whether he scores or not doesn't change anything for me: I care that he gives a different profile to the team, we have to learn to play better with him and he with us."
