It was Mosimane who initially signed Tau for the Egyptian giants back in 2021, following a spell in England with Brighton Hove Albion.
Mosimane subsequently departed the Red Eagles and many expected Tau to follow; however, the Lion of Judah remained in Cairo, where he has managed to shake off his injury woes and play a pivotal role in coach Marcel Kohler's side winning the continental showpiece against Wydad Casablanca.
Al Ahly drew 1-1 on Sunday evening to win the tie 3-2 on aggregate, having managed a 2-1 win in the first leg.
After the match, Mosimane took to his official Twitter account to congratulate Tau and tip him for the CAF Player of the Year award, having scored five goals and five assists throughout the campaign.
"Patriotic Lion of Judah wearing the respectable South African flag. That Flag is very notorious with winning major trophies in different countries and continents! Thanks God injuries gave you a break to show your talent. My player of the tournament and a Champion of Africa," he tweeted.
Tau and Al Ahly could add to their title tally with the club still in the running for the Egyptian League title as they trail leaders Pyramids by two points although they do have six matches in hand over their opponents.
