Kaizer Chiefs could be returning back to basics next season, with news that football manager Bobby Motaung's expertise will be needed.
The veteran administrator has spent the better part of the 2022/23 season on the sidelines with his younger brother Kaizer Motaung Jnr appointed Sporting Director two years ago and hitting the ground running.
However, the fact that there has been another trophy drought and doubts over Jnr's coaching choice, Arthur Zwane, will still be in charge next season is understood to have prompted the decision to lean on Bobby's experience.
It wasn't until last week at Alex 'Goldfingers' Shakoane's memorial service that Bobby made public comments about Chiefs matters, that had been primarily left to Kaizer Jnr as the face of the new dawn.
According to insiders and agents in the football fraternity, the Sporting Director was mostly making the bulk of the decisions when it comes to player movements and any appointments in the backroom staff.
But that appears to have changed, with Siya sources informing the crew that Kaizer Jnr has recently insisted on his brother being part of the big picture with future plans for next season and beyond.
Indications are that the two siblings were at loggerheads following recent changes at the club in June 2021, given that in public, at least, it appeared as though Bobby had been demoted.
However, with Kaizer Jnr now understanding the landscape better, it's likely that the duo will work closely in attempting to end the club's eight-year trophy drought.
