Karim Benzema seems to have had a sly dig at Lionel Messi having lost out to the Argentine for The Best FIFA Men's Player award.
The two attacking superstars were up for the accolade, along with Kylian Mbappe, but despite playing an integral role in Real Madrid's LaLiga and UEFA Champions League glory last season, the Frenchman lost to Messi at the event in Paris.
With Benzema finishing third behind the Paris Saint-Germain star and his club teammate in the award's voting, the Lyon-born striker, who was not in attendance at the awards gala, took to Instagram to post some cryptic messages following the outcome.
First, the Ballon d'Or winner posted a video of a man saying, "Liar, yes, you liar".
Later, he posted an image from another account that had a list of all the individual and team accolades he had accrued since August 2021, including six major honours for club and country.
The Los Blancos captain then closed his series of posts with a black and white picture of himself captioned, "Good night".
On Monday, Messi became the first player, male or female, to win seven FIFA best player awards, breaking the deadlock he had with six-time best women's player Marta of Brazil.
The Argentine led his nation to a third World Cup triumph in Qatar, while Benzema missed the global showpiece in the Gulf in large part due to injury, a theme that has plagued the France international's 2022/23 season.
