AmaZulu have confirmed the immediate transfer of captain Makhehleni Makhaula to Soweto giants Orlando Pirates.
Initially the Buccaneers had signed the hard-working midfielder on a pre-contract, but an agreement has been reached between the two clubs for the former Highlands Park player to join before the close of the January transfer window tonight.
In a statement, Usuthu confirmed the departure of their captain and thanked him for the service for a period of over two years.
"Makhaula leaves with our full blessings. He served the club very well as captain and was the recipient of the President's and the player's player of the year awards two seasons ago with merit," president Sandile Zungu said in the statement released by the club on Tuesday afternoon.
Makhaula joins a Pirates side that has so much competition in the middle of the park, with the likes of Thabang Monare, Miguel Timm and Ben Motswari as options for head coach Jose Riveiro.
Earlier on Tuesday, Pirates confirmed that striker Zakhele Lepasa has joined SuperSport United on loan for the rest of the season.
Pirates have since confirmed the acquisition of Makhaula.
