In a recent tweet, Mbappe urged his followers to "pray for the King" amid news that Pele's health condition had worsened, leading to serious concern in the footballing world.
Responding to the 23-year-old's gesture on Thursday, Pele wrote back to the former Monaco talent, saying: "Thank you, [Mbappe]. I'm happy to see you breaking another one of my records in this Cup, my friend!"
Mbappe will be key for France in their quarter-final clash with England on Saturday, with right-back Kyle Walker likely to be tasked with preventing the attacker from causing the Three Lions problems.
In 11 World Cup games since his debut in Russia, the France forward has contributed to 12 goals in the competition.
