It has been reported that Lionel Messi is one of the reasons Kylian Mbappe has decided he wants to leave Paris Saint-Germain in the January transfer window.
Messi-Less PSG Drop Points, Real Rescue Unbeaten Record
News broke in Europe on Tuesday, ahead of PSG's UEFA Champions League clash with Benfica, that the 23-year-old superstar is unhappy in France and desires an exit as soon as possible.
While dressing-room figures such as Sergio Ramos and Achraf Hakimi have since denied that Mbappe wants to leave, top football journalists from around the world believe it to be true, with all eyes on the forward at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday.
It has been claimed by Marca reporter Mario Cortegana that, while there are various reasons for the France international's unhappiness in Ligue 1, Messi's growing status in the dressing room has led Mbappe to feeling the team's chances of winning the Champions League are slim.
Though it is unclear as to why Mbappe thinks this way, some interpret it as the Frenchman believing an overreliance on the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner could be detrimental in the long run.
The Argentine, widely regarded as one of the game's all-time greats, is believed to hold a significant degree of influence at PSG, with Neymar and Marco Verratti close with Messi.
Mbappe, meanwhile, is reported to have totally fallen out with Neymar, despite their relationship being good for the first three years of their stay in Paris after they joined the club in the same transfer window in 2017.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner scored in PSG's 1-1 draw with Benfica on Tuesday night, with Mbappe starting in a role that he is said to not want to play in. Head coach Christophe Galtier started him as a single striker, before utilising him in a deeper role in the second half.
