Former SuperSport United man Siyabonga Nhlapo is linked with a possible move to under-siege Richards Bay United. The 34-year-old defender appeared on the verge of joining newly-promoted Cape Town Spurs, but the Siya crew was informed that the technical team made a surprise U-turn when it looked certain that he would sign.
According to a Siya deep throat, struggling Urban Warriors feel that while it is important to mix experience with youth in order to survive, Nhlapo, at 34 years, was long in the tooth, particularly because the team is packed with several other players on the wrong side of 30.
However, this publication has learnt that when Kaitano Tembo was appointed the Natal Rich Boyz head coach, the player approached him expressing his interest in joining them. And because the Zimbabwean-born mentor has previously worked with Nhlapo, he invited him to have a look and seems to have been impressed enough to recommend to club boss Jomo Biyela to add him to their roster.
The KwaZulu-Natal side are lying second from the bottom on the log standings with two draws and three losses after five starts, and have already shipped in six goals while scoring only two. It could be that perhaps coach Kaitano Tembo is looking at Nhlapo to help shut their porous back-door before they concede even more goals and information at Siya's disposal is that the deal is awaiting Biyela's rejection or stamp of approval before it is too late.
