Mamelodi Sundowns are expected to make a late call on one of their key men for their CAF Champions League semi-final clash.

The Bafana Bafana midfielder asked to come off after scoring a cracking goal against Moroka Swallows in the DSTV Premiership on Monday night, with what looked like a tight muscle in the hamstring area.

While the injury does not sound like it's too serious, Sundowns will be assessing the former SuperSport United man to make sure he is in the right condition to feature against Tunisian giants Esperance in the Champions League first leg semi-final.

Mokoena, the reigning PSL footballer of the season, is likely to be available for the clash with Sundowns needing their key man in the middle of the park to dominate a game that will certainly not be easy.

Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena told media not so long ago that his players should alert the bench whenever they feel the slightest pain, to avoid making their injuries worse. With Sundowns competing on three fronts, the club wants to make sure that they do not lose many of their players to injuries, especially if they can avoid making them worse by playing on in pain.

So, Mokoena made a decision to alert the technical team on Monday evening, giving himself a chance of being available in the final few weeks of the campaign, instead of risking an injury that could have kept him out for a longer period.

Sundowns are determined to go all the way in the Champions League this season after the disappointment of last term. They were knocked out in the semi-finals by Wydad Casablanca and have an opportunity to make up for what happened last season.

Just like last season, their first leg semi-final is away from home and they will have an opportunity to seal a spot in the final in the return leg on home soil.
