SuperSport United remain without a league win in 2024 after rescuing a 1-1 draw against Polokwane City on Wednesday night.

DStv Premiership

Result: SuperSport United 1-1 Polokwane City

Date: 17 April 2024

Venue: Lucas Moripe Stadium

SuperSport made four changes from their heavy defeat against Stellenbosch, as Terrence Dzvukamanja, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Ime Okon and Abdulrazack Hamza dropped out of the line-up.

Polokwane, on the other hand, were without former Orlando Pirates striker Ndumiso Mabena as he was replaced by Meshack Maphangule, as the only change from their narrow loss against Royal AM.

The sides had a lot of energy in the early stages, with shots from different angles but they were not accurate in front of goal.

The game came life on the half-hour mark after Matsatsantsa were reduced to ten men following the red-card of goalkeeper Ricardo Goss for handling the ball out of the box.

As a result of the red card, SuperSport coach Gavin Hunt sacrificed striker Bradley Grobler as shot-stopper Washington Arubi was rushed into goals.

Rise and Shine gained the upper hand after that and Manuel Kambala was guilty of missing two good chances on the stroke of half-time, as United were relieved to head to the break with the score deadlocked.

Polokwane had the perfect start in the second stanza as Oswin Appollis eventually broke the deadlock 11 minutes from the break with a strike in the box after he was teed up by Given Mashikinya.

Hunt responded with a quadruple change, one of them Etiosa Ighodaro, who replaced young striker Lucky Muthewi.

Ighodaro made an immediate impact, as he equalised for Matsatsantsa with a header in the box from a cross by fellow substitute Aphiwe Baliti.

The sides shared the spoils in the end, as SuperSport remained without a win in the league since the return from the Africa Cup of Nations break.
