The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has officially confirmed who their new manager is, with his first game in charge of the Super Eagles being against Bafana Bafana.

The three-time African champions have announced that one of their icons, Finidi George, will be the official successor to Jose Peseiro.
The NFF first decided to give the ex-winger the job on an interim basis during the previous international break, where he had a mixed bag of results, beating Ghana 2-1 and losing to Mali 2-0.
However, he seems to have impressed enough as the powers-that-be at the west African powerhouse have decided that the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations winner is the man to lead them to next year's Africa Cup of Nations and the following year's FIFA World Cup in the Americas.

"The Board of Nigeria Football Federation on Monday approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Committee to appoint former ace winger Finidi George as Head Coach of the Senior Men National Football Team, Super Eagles,” an official statement from the country's football federation reads.
"George, who spent 20 months as assistant to Jose Santos Peseiro before the Portuguese voluntarily left the post following the accomplishment of Africa Cup of Nations runner-up position at Cote d’Ivoire 2023, took charge of the squad in interim capacity during two friendly matches in Morocco last month.
“His squad edged Ghana 2-1 in the first match, ending an 18-year winless streak against the Black Stars, but then lost 0-2 to Mali in the second game.”

George's first game in charge will be against Hugo Broos and his AFCON 2023 bronze medallists. The two rivals last met in the previous edition of the continental showpiece, when Nigeria came out triumphant in the semi-finals. Now, a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup is up for grabs when the two sides meet in Ayo on 3 June.
