Chiefs Beat Celtic To Retain Macufe Cup

Macufe Cup Report: Bloemfontein Celtic v Kaizer Chiefs 08 October 2017

Macufe Cup

Result: Bloemfontein Celtic 2-4 Kaizer Chiefs

Date: 08 October 2017

Venue: Free State Stadium

Kaizer Chiefs edged Bloemfontein Celtic in a 4-2 thriller at the Free State Stadium to retain the Macufe Cup.

The game started off on a high tempo as both sides looked to play enterprising football for the spectators in attendance.

Chiefs grabbed the lead through Dumisani Zuma after some pressure from the Glamour Boys saw them lead 1-0 after five minutes.

Celtic weren’t deterred and they responded quickly through a well-taken Victor Lestoalo goal to level matters at 1-1 after just seven minutes on the clock.

The match was exciting and lively and saw Lestoalo grab his second goal to give his side a 2-1 lead with a fine header, much to the delight of the home crowd.

The visitors responded immediately with a goal of their own through a towering header from Siyabonga Ngezana who equalised for Chiefs after 20 minutes.

After the substitution of Kgotso Moleko through injury,  Chiefs restarted the action and Bernard Parker put his team back in front on the stroke of halftime through a header at the far post.

Chiefs went into the break with a 3-2 lead.

Chiefs made a number of changes at the start of the second half which saw Joseph Molongoane coming on for Dumisani Zuma, William Twala for Bhongolethu Jayiya, Sibusiso Khumalo for Philani Zulu and Keagan Buchanan for George Maluleka.

Celtic were denied an equaliser shortly after play resumed when Brilliant Khuzwayo brilliantly kept out a shot at his near post to maintain Chiefs’ lead.

Amakhosi thought they had found a fourth goal when Ryan Moon headed home in the 65th minute only to be denied by the offside flag. Although, Replays showed that the striker was onside.

Lehlohonolo Seema was in charge of Celtic for the encounter and he opted for a couple changes of his own as Tshegofatso Mabaso and Khethokwakhe Masuku were introduced in the final 15 minutes.

However, Moon was not to be denied twice though as Chiefs were awarded a penalty in the 90th minute and the striker duly converted the spot kick to make it 4-2 to Chiefs.

Moon's goal would be the last bit of action as Steve Khompela and his charges retained the cup they won last year.

Here's how they started:

Celtic: 16 Mtshali, 2 Molekwane, 20 Ntuli, 21 Khasip(Sibanda 54'), 12 Mahlasela (Masuku 84'), 7 Abondo (Dlamini 61'), 6 Maruping (Mabaso 79'), 8 Phalane, 18 Lubisi (Jembula 46'), 13 Letsoalo, 9 Nyondo.

Chiefs: 16 Khuzwayo, 31 Katsande, 12 Maluleka (Buchanan 46'), 30 Ngezana, 18 Moleko, 38 Meyiwa, 40 Jayiya (Twala 46'), 22 Zulu (Khumalo 46'), 28 Zuma (Molangoane 46'), 25 Parker (Moon 46'), 27 Ekstein (Ngcobo 64').

I am now convinced that Bro Steve is confused and has no clue of what he is doing at Chiefs, he didn't use this Macufe Cup to solve his problems. Chiefs problem is defence and scoring goals. First half the team was promising then he made six subs at once, then momentum and rhythm of Chiefs died. Does what we saw mean Katsane will now be a defender?

@Vhivha.... stop lying to yourself. This was no practice match. You have played many of such matches and u still fail to win anything in the league. The consecutive empty seasons will degrade Chiefs to as little as Mvela teams. Viva Steve Vivaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
